Job Description

LABORATORY TECHNOLOGIST

Provide support for the diagnosis of Thalassemia and related haemoglobinopathies, the DNA analysis program & Diagnostic Laboratory services. Carryout routine analytical and administrative works of the laboratory.

Qualification:          

• Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field (including hematology)
• Should have a Phlebotomy Certificate
• Experience in a relevant field will be considered
• Should be registered at Maldives Allied Health Council and licensed to work as a Laboratory Technologist

Requirements:         

• Should be a Maldivian
• Basic knowledge of MS Office
• Strong time management skills
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Possess fine analytical judgement, excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
• Good eye-hand coordination
• Attention to detail for obtaining accurate results on tests and good organizational skills
• Focused and target oriented
• Should enjoy taking a methodical approach to work, analyzing results, establishing procedures and able to use computers and specialized instruments for accurate and precise testing.
• Able to pay attention to detail for obtaining accurate results on tests
• Able to work as part of a team
• Able to travel on occasions when required

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

• Carry out routine laboratory work for thalassemia screening including phlebotomy, complete haemogram, blood picture analysis and electrophoresis.
• Participation in field trips as required.
• Participation in awareness raising programs as required.
• Provide Genetic counselling to identified carriers and couples at risk.
• Data entry for Thalassemia and updating of laboratory statistics.
• Ensure that all laboratory supplies and equipment, including emergency stock, are utilized appropriately and stored appropriately.
• Coordinating in house training.
• Routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and preparation of reagents in lab.

Working Hours:   0800 HRS to 1430 HRS

Working Days:      Sunday to Thursday (except weekend and all public holidays)

Salary Range: MRF 11,470.00 – 13,800.00 (will be determined based on qualification and experience)
