We're Hiring: Head of Boatbuilding & Projects (WaveCraft – Maldives)
WaveCraft, a rapidly growing fiberglass boatbuilding facility in the Maldives, is seeking an experienced and highly skilled professional to lead its production operations. This is a key leadership role suited for someone with extensive hands-on expertise in FRP/composite boatbuilding and the ability to manage diverse technical teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily production operations, including lamination, carpentry, mechanical, electrical, and finishing works.
- Interpret technical drawings and coordinate with external naval architects and designers.
- Prepare and manage production schedules to ensure timely delivery of projects.
- Supervise, guide, and motivate teams of laminators, carpenters, electricians, mechanics, and painters.
- Ensure strict quality standards throughout all stages of production.
- Monitor material consumption and work with procurement for timely ordering.
- Enforce workplace safety and ensure compliance with all safety protocols.
- Train and upskill local staff to enhance productivity and workmanship.
- Provide regular progress reports and highlight operational challenges to management.
- Oversee installation of engines, shafts, propellers, electrical systems, and final vessel fit-out.
Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of experience in FRP/composite boatbuilding or shipyard operations.
- Strong hands-on background in hull/deck lamination, structural components, bulkheads, and stringers.
- Experience in installing engines, propulsion systems, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Ability to read and interpret GA drawings, structural plans, and technical schematics.
- Proven experience supervising multi-skilled technical teams.
- Good understanding of polyester/vinylester resins, core materials (PVC/PET), and marine finishing.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability and willingness to train local staff.
- Good command of English.
- Must be willing to reside and work full-time in Thimarafushi Island.
