Job Description

We're Hiring: Head of Boatbuilding & Projects (WaveCraft – Maldives)

WaveCraft, a rapidly growing fiberglass boatbuilding facility in the Maldives, is seeking an experienced and highly skilled professional to lead its production operations. This is a key leadership role suited for someone with extensive hands-on expertise in FRP/composite boatbuilding and the ability to manage diverse technical teams.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily production operations, including lamination, carpentry, mechanical, electrical, and finishing works.
  • Interpret technical drawings and coordinate with external naval architects and designers.
  • Prepare and manage production schedules to ensure timely delivery of projects.
  • Supervise, guide, and motivate teams of laminators, carpenters, electricians, mechanics, and painters.
  • Ensure strict quality standards throughout all stages of production.
  • Monitor material consumption and work with procurement for timely ordering.
  • Enforce workplace safety and ensure compliance with all safety protocols.
  • Train and upskill local staff to enhance productivity and workmanship.
  • Provide regular progress reports and highlight operational challenges to management.
  • Oversee installation of engines, shafts, propellers, electrical systems, and final vessel fit-out.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in FRP/composite boatbuilding or shipyard operations.
  • Strong hands-on background in hull/deck lamination, structural components, bulkheads, and stringers.
  • Experience in installing engines, propulsion systems, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret GA drawings, structural plans, and technical schematics.
  • Proven experience supervising multi-skilled technical teams.
  • Good understanding of polyester/vinylester resins, core materials (PVC/PET), and marine finishing.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability and willingness to train local staff.
  • Good command of English.
  • Must be willing to reside and work full-time in Thimarafushi Island.
