Technician shall participate in the “Maldives Retirement Pension Scheme” as required by the Maldives Pension Law and its regulations.
A "Ramadan Allowance" will be provided to the technician before the start of the month of Ramadan, according to the rules set by the Implementing Agency. This allowance is applicable only to Muslim employees.
Training and travel expenses under the PMU will be covered as per the budget allocated for the project and approved by implementing agency

Request for Expression of Interest -Technician – Agri Biotech and Soil Health Lab

(Gn. Fuvahmulah)  

 

The Government of the Republic of Maldives through the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources is implementing Maldives –Transforming Fisheries Sector Management in South-West Indian Ocean Region and Maldives Project financed by the World Bank. The aim of the Project is to strengthen regional, evidence-based fisheries management in the South-West Indian Ocean Region and to improve competitiveness in the fisheries sector in the Maldives.   

As part of this project, the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare seeks an individual for the position of Technician – Agri Biotech and Soil Health Lab (Gn. Fuvahmulah). Selected candidate will be transferred to Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare upon completion of one year of service.        

Scope of service, Required Expertise & Qualifications, and Remuneration

The overall responsibilities of the Technician include, but are not limited to the following:

1. Perform technical works carried out in the laboratory in connection with plant pathology/ entomology/ production of biocontrol agents production of biological control agents, preparation of biopesticides, rearing of beneficial insects, preparation of biofertilizers, plant breeding, pesticide and pesticide residue testing, fertilizer testing, plant tissue testing, soil testing / soil science and tissue culture
2. Organize travels to agricultural fields to collect and prepare samples intended for testing
3. Collect samples from plants, soils, pesticides, fertilizers intended for testing and prepare to dispatch them to the designated laboratory.
4. Assist / Facilitate in the development of laboratory SOPs.
5. Prepare reports of all tests completed by Agri Biotech and Soil Health Laboratory.
6. Ensure maintaining inventory and cleaning of laboratory equipment
7. Any other task assigned by the Agriculture Division.
8. Receive, register laboratory samples at the Laboratory.
9. Prepare timely laboratory reports and forward to the Senior Laboratory Technician.
10. Maintain bio-security level measures at the laboratory.

1. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
2. A Bachelor’s degree (MNQF level 7 or Level 8) in the field of Laboratory Technology or related field.

The short-listed candidate will be requested to participate in personal interviews and submit the names and contact details of personal referees who can attest to their ability.

The successful candidate must understand the objectives and delivery mechanisms of the project. S/he must be willing to work in a team, be flexible to emerging or changing conditions, and undertake initiative to overcome challenges.

REPORTING REQUIREMENT

1. Report directly to the Director General throughout the duration of the contract unless otherwise advised by the Implementing Agency.
2. The Technician is expected to report to work on weekdays from 0800 – 1400 hours other than public holidays and provide services to the Client for an average of 30 hours a week. The Technician shall provide all the necessary reports and updates to the Director General to be presented at the Project Steering Committee and donor agencies whenever needed.
3. The Technician is required to report to work in official attire except on fieldwork.

SCHEDULE FOR THE ASSIGNMENT

Duration of the assignment is 36 months from the commencement of the works with potential extension based on performance. The successful candidate is expected to commence the services in January 2026

This position is based at the Agri Biotech and Soil Health Laboratory located in Fuvahmulah City.

RENUMERATION AND OTHER BENEFITS

1. Technician shall be paid a monthly basic salary of MVR 6295/-(Six Thousand and Two Hundred and Ninety) for the services provided, excluding any unauthorized leave.  
2. Technician will be entitled to a monthly service allowance of MVR 2000/- (Two Thousand Rufiyaa Only), and a special duty allowance equivalent to 35% of the basic salary per month.  
3. Technician is also entitled to a monthly Technical-co allowance equivalent to 28% of the basic salary per month. If the technician is found to be ineligible for this allowance, Technician will be entitled to a monthly Supporting-co allowance of MVR 900 (Nine Hundred).

SERVICES AND FACILITIES TO BE PROVIDED BY THE IMPLEMENTING AGENCY

1. Office space and other facilities such as computers will be provided as required.
2. Local transport for official travel between Malé and field visits to islands; food, accommodation and allowance.
