Role Purpose:
The Senior Associate is a licensed Attorney-at-Law employed on a full-time basis and engaged in the lawful practice of law under the supervision and direction of the Partners of Aureus Law Firm LLP. The role requires adherence to the Legal Profession Act, Maldives Bar Council Regulations, and all applicable professional conduct rules.
The Senior Associate is entrusted with managing legal matters competently and ethically, exercising independent professional judgment while complying with the firm’s internal policies and regulatory requirements.

Scope of Duties:
Legal Practice & Professional Functions
- Provide legal advice, representation, and advocacy strictly within the scope permitted to licensed Attorneys-at-Law under Maldivian law
- Appear before courts, tribunals, and authorities in accordance with Bar Council regulations and procedural laws, including High Court and Supreme Court of the Maldives.
- Draft, review, and settle pleadings, legal opinions, contracts, and legal instruments with due professional care and competence
- Maintain client confidentiality and legal professional privilege at all times
- Avoid conflicts of interest and comply with disclosure and recusal requirements
Supervision & Accountability
- Supervise junior lawyers and non-practising legal staff in a manner consistent with professional responsibility rules
- Review and approve legal work prepared by junior staff before submission or client delivery
- Ensure that non-licensed staff do not provide legal advice or engage in reserved legal activities
Client & Ethical Responsibilities
- Act in the best interests of clients while maintaining independence of professional judgment
- Provide clear, honest, and competent legal advice without misleading representations
- Communicate with clients in a timely, transparent, and professional manner
- Refrain from conduct that may bring the legal profession or the firm into disrepute
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent recognised qualification
- Valid and current licence to practise as an Attorney-at-Law issued by the Maldives Bar Council including High Court and Supreme Court of the Maldives.
- Minimum 5 years post-qualification legal experience (or equivalent demonstrated competence)
- No disciplinary sanctions that would impair eligibility to practise

- Strong understanding of Maldivian laws, regulations, and court procedures
- Ability to analyse complex legal issues and apply relevant legal principles accurately
- Proficiency in legal drafting, including pleadings, contracts, legal opinions, and correspondence
- Familiarity with legal terminology and professional legal language used in court and advisory work
- Ability to exercise sound professional judgment and ethical decision-making
Language & Communication Skills
- Fluency in Dhivehi (spoken and written), including accurate legal and formal usage
- Strong proficiency in English (spoken and written), particularly for legal drafting, research, and professional correspondence
- Ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, understandable advice for clients
- Effective oral advocacy and professional communication skills
Computer & Technical Skills
- Competent typing skills in both Dhivehi and English
- Proficiency in standard office software (word processing, spreadsheets, email, document management systems)
- Ability to prepare, format, and manage legal documents electronically
- Familiarity with electronic filing systems and digital record-keeping
Legal Research Skills
- Strong legal research capability using statutes, case law, regulations, and secondary legal sources
- Ability to use legal research tools, online databases, and official government and court resources
- Competence in comparative and regulatory research where required
- Ability to organise research findings into clear, practical legal outputs
Organisational & Case Management Skills
- Ability to manage multiple files, deadlines, and court schedules effectively
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all legal work
- Ability to prioritise tasks and work under pressure while maintaining quality
Interpersonal & Professional Skills
- High level of professional integrity, discretion, and confidentiality
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a legal team
- Professional client-handling skills and courteous interaction with courts, regulators, and stakeholders
- Leadership and mentoring skills for supervising junior staff
