Nellaidhoo School came into existence in 1943, in the name of 'Maqthab'. On 1st August 2005 it became a government school under the name of 'Nellaidhoo School'. It turned out to be a secondary school by the introduction of 8th grade. For the first time in the year 2007, students participated in GCE o'level examinations. With the improvements, the school introduced grade 11, and thereby started teaching for Higher Secondary level on 16th June 2013.
