Job Description

Position Overview

The Supply Boat Captain is responsible for commanding and managing the safe operation of supply vessels, ensuring compliance with maritime regulations, overseeing crew performance, and maintaining the vessel in seaworthy condition. The Captain ensures timely transportation of supplies, supports daily operations, and upholds safety, service, and environmental standards.


Key Responsibilities

1. Vessel Command & Operations

  • Take full command of the supply boat, ensuring safe navigation, maneuvering, and docking.
  • Plan and execute supply transport operations in coordination with the Operations Department.
  • Monitor weather, tides, and navigation information to ensure safe voyages.
  • Maintain proper ship logs, voyage reports, and records of vessel movements.

2. Vessel Maintenance & Documentation

  • Oversee the upkeep and operational readiness of the vessel, including machinery, deck equipment, and safety gear.
  • Ensure timely maintenance and servicing of the vessel, dinghies, and associated equipment.
  • Maintain and update all required vessel documentation, including safety certificates, licenses, and inspection records.

3. Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce compliance with maritime laws, safety regulations, and company policies.
  • Ensure the vessel’s crew follows all safety protocols, including emergency drills.
  • Provide first aid in case of emergencies and ensure readiness for medical evacuation if required.

4. Crew Management & Training

  • Supervise, train, and evaluate vessel crew members to ensure operational efficiency and safety.
  • Assign tasks based on skills and operational requirements.
  • Promote teamwork, discipline, and a positive working environment onboard.

5. Environmental Responsibility

  • Implement proper waste disposal practices in compliance with environmental standards.
  • Ensure efficient use of fuel and supplies to minimize wastage.

6. Communication & Reporting

  • Communicate regularly with the Operations Department regarding voyages, maintenance needs, and supply schedules.
  • Report any incidents, breakdowns, or safety hazards immediately.
  • Provide recommendations for operational improvements.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Valid Captain’s License/Certificate of Competency (as required by Maldives Maritime Authority).
  • Well experienced operating supply boats or similar vessels.
  • Strong knowledge of maritime navigation, safety procedures, and vessel maintenance.
  • Leadership and crew management skills.
  • Ability to make quick, sound decisions in emergency situations.
  • First aid and basic firefighting certification preferred.
