About Us

The National Drug Agency (NDA) is the primary executive body established on January 26, 2012, under the Drug Act (Law No. 17/2011). Its core mandate is to implement the policies formulated by the President of the Maldives, based on the recommendations of the National Drug Control Council. The primary responsibilities of the agency include are Taking appropriate measures to address the challenges of drug abuse, trafficking, and importation, based on evolving circumstances, Identifying drug-related crimes, associated violence, and health issues, and implementing national policies designed to tackle these concerns, Monitoring the extent to which government institutions are implementing state policies regarding drug prevention and Organizing drug prevention programs and coordinating the efforts of all relevant institutions. In addition Establishing comprehensive treatment systems for individuals with substance use disorders and facilitating their rehabilitation and reintegration as productive members of society, Collaborating with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to safeguard society from the scourge of drugs and providing them with necessary technical guidance and support, Conducting awareness programs targeted at all segments of society, in collaboration with relevant authorities, to enhance drug prevention efforts and Strengthening ties with international organizations in this field, sharing information and expertise, and seeking necessary assistance and benefits for the Maldives.
