About Us
MEDICA is the 5th Hospital, located in the Dahana building, inaugurated on 19th January 2013 (registered on 27th September 2012, Reg. No.: C-0567/2012) and is established with the vision of providing reliable and quality health care services to the Maldivian population. Along with the Multispecialty Outpatient Services, Advanced Diagnostic Service, Day Surgery Services, Inpatient services preventive healthcare and the introduction of Community Care Services (Outreach, Adult Day services, Male Wellness center, Female Wellness Centre, Telehealth Services) in the preventive health care services Medica aims to merge patient care with expertise.
Conveniently located in the heart of Male’, Medica will occupy All 10 Floors of Dahana building. The ground level comprises a state-of-the-art pharmacy, X-ray and Ultra sound scanning services and Laboratory services which will include services in Haemotology, Biochemistry, and Microbiology along with a sample collection unit. Great care is given to ensure that the best facilities for diagnosis are available. In addition to this, the reception and other administrative services under the management of Medica will be available on the ground floor (floor plan: attachment 1).
The first floor and fourth floor will consist of the consultation rooms, as well as a minor procedure room. Along with the regular outpatient services in Cardiology, Neurology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, General Surgery, Orthopedics and Trauma surgery, Paediatrics, Ophtalmology, Internal Medicine and Dental surgery visiting consultant services in Neurology, Cardiology, Urology and Gastroenterology and ant-ageing will be made available (floor plan attachment 2).
The second and third floor comprises of the Days surgery suites, High dependency unit, pre-operative and post-operative wards and Day surgery unit with fully equipped fully functioning multi-specialty Operation Theatre. It is a consultant led medical, surgical and nursing care services that include the specialties of General Surgery, Orthopedic surgery, Gynecological Surgery, ENT Surgery and others on a case-by-case basis, performed under general and local Anaesthesia.
The second level will consist of the day surgery suites with pre-op and post-op wards. The nurses at Medica will give support advice and as much information after admission and prior to surgery, to reduce stress and ensure a speedy recovery. Nurses at Medica Hospital are multi-skilled professional nurses. Proper Recovery of the patients immediately after their operation will also be an important priority for the staff at Medica. Post operatively, after general anaesthesia, patients will stay in the Medica Day Surgery Unit for a minimum of two hours prior to their discharge. The unit will have private rooms located on the third level for patients needing admission for more than 24 hours to few days.
Prior to discharge health education, information about medication, wound care, sutures, pain relief, life style, community follow up care, work and play as well as contact numbers for help and advice will be given. This is to ensure that the patient will be able to care for him or herself once discharged, and feels happy and confident to go home. Nurses at Medica are well trained and have the autonomy to decide if a patient should or should not go home. In order to be discharged patients should have a responsible care taker to look after them for 24 hours following surgery and to take them home in private transport. Medica aims to care for patients undergoing surgery with minimal disruption to their lifestyle.
