About Us
Laamu Atoll Education Centre was started as a community school project in 1980. The foundation was laid on 20.10.1980 (11th Zulhaijja 1400), on Monday by the Atoll Chief Ismail Mohamed(Jambudon Ismail) . Officially the school was inaugurated and started functioning on 07.05.1983(24th Rajabu 1403). The school was opened by the Honorable Minister of Education Mr. Mohamed Zahir Hussain under the name of Laamu Atoll Education Centre. The school begin with 278 including 79 students from other islands with six members of staff.The first head of the institution was Abdul Aziz Jamal.This school was located in Laamu Fonadhoo.In 1995 teaching Pre Grade 8 was started. In 1996 Secondry Teaching was started. SSC and GCE olevel exam was held in 1998 with 21 students. Science Stream was introduced in 2000. Highher Secondry was started in 2004 with the number of 25 students.
