About Us

Since the presidency of Mohamed Amin Didi, the first president of the Republic of Maldives, educational activities have been conducted on this island. During those early days, there were no established schools, and teaching took place in locations such as ‘Uthuru Avashu Kaaduge’, ‘Sitha’thage’, ‘Ku’nburu Ge’, ‘Aage’, ‘Finihiyage’, ‘Mudhibege’, and ‘Neelofaruge’. Instruction focused on Arabic writing, Thana, the Holy Quran, mathematics (including numbers, addition, multiplication, and division), and religious knowledge, which was taught from texts such as ‘Irushadhulanaam’, ‘Thauleemuh Diyana’, and ‘Dhurusul Ahlaagu’. In 1975, after registering with ‘Vuzarathul Maarif’ (now known as the Ministry of Education) under the name ‘Makthabul Hudha’, a formal school was established. Among the notable teachers who contributed to the school during this time were Abdhul Gadhir Moosa, Lojehi Thuthu Didi, Gulhi Vaseem (G.M.), and Baa Kaendhoo Ibrahim Hussain (Ghazee). Gulhee Madharusa was inaugurated on May 26, 1992, under the leadership of Ahmed Hussain/Roazmeed, K. Gulhi. At that time, the school employed six dedicated teachers who worked diligently to provide quality education, including English as a subject for grades 1 through 7. On August 1, 2005, the community school was renamed “Gulhee School.” Following this transition, it became a government school and has since operated under the supervision of the Ministry of Education. At that time, there were 20 teachers, and secondary education commenced in 2006. Notably, the school participated in its first international examination in 2008.
